Johnny Mac, Richard and Amanda Showalter attended the Kansas Music Hall of Fame Saturday night in Lawrence. The Tempests, a 1960’s Hays band were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The members rehearsing Wednesday night in Hays included: Dave Wann, Don Wierman, Skip Schlyer, Dennis Higgins, John Herrman, Cliff and Trevor Engel, Stan Schmidt, Dave Herrman, Charlie Doerfler and Mike Schmidt. All the band members are original to the group with the exception of Trevor Engel. Another Hays band, The Playmate Blues Band was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. It too included many area musicians.

Chuck Higgins and Zach, Cameron Horesky and Brady Demel along with Jerry, Jodi and Jenna Higgins attended the Hutchinson High School basketball game in Wichita Friday night. They were overnight guests of Jerry and Jodi. The Salthawks played at Wichita North. North won 43-30 but the team held the future KU Jayhawk and Wichita City League’s all-time leading scorer, Conner Frankamp to 13 points.

Marilyn Sommers spent the weekend with her parents, Francis and Roberta Wierman. We are glad to see our friends, Gary and Susan Rebel back in Rush County.

A ‘Meet and Greet the new neighbors’ and ‘Come and Go Baby Shower’ was held Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church for Becky and Matt Benoit and their two-month old baby, Brooke Noelle. The couple currently lives in Pete and Rhonda’ Derr’s house and he is the manager for Midland Marketing in LaCrosse. We welcome them to our area.

RCNews February 1983 Vincent, Wilfrid and Vic Higgins attended the funeral for their aunt Marie Coleman in Manchester, IA. A fierce winter snowstorm blasted its way into the area stopping Rush County in its tracks. More than a foot of snow with gusty winds of 30 mph created problems. Travel was at a standstill. Girl Scouts selling cookies are Brownies: Crystal Bearley, Arlene Mills, Mamie Rogers, Dana Bergquist: juniors: Donna King and Tambra Herdman: Cadettes: Paula Crawshaw, Debbie Gaunt, Michele Moran, Laura North, Janice Depperschmidt, Susan Thompson.A daughter, Dawn Renee, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Baus Jr., February 10. Sandy Peters won 1st place in the Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by VFW in LaCrosse. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Pesicka have purchased Al’s Place located on the hill of K-96 and are remodeling the entire inside. Ms. Karen Dee, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse McFarren, has enjoyed success as a country music performer. Card parties will be held Saturday evenings every two weeks at the Masonic Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Showalter celebrated their 30th anniversary with a housewarming given by friends. Mike Stull, Doug Elias and Janet Conner attended FHSU Senior Day. MHS Mustangs won over the Chase Kats 86-41. Shawn McKinney, Gary Barnes, Doug Elias, Mike Stull, Jeff Scheuerman and Butch Hayes all scored for the Mustangs. Missy Seltmann, Vikki Hopkins and Kaira Miller were finalists at the Rush County spelling bee. Shawn McKinney and Chad Herdman served as pages for Rep. Robert Miller at the House of Representatives in Topeka.
