Our sympathy to the family of Steven R. Huber, 67, Paola, who died February 16, 2015 at Olathe Hospice House of a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the eldest son of Robert and Margaret Moore Huber born on August 6, 1947 at Emporia. They lived in McCracken where his father was employed. After his father's death in 1962, he moved to Osage City with his mother and two brothers. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Janet Underwood in 1970 and they were married nearly 45 years. They had three sons. He worked for the Missouri/Union Pacific Railroad through the early 1990's. He was a first grader in September 1953 at McCracken Grade School.

Sandra Jacobs celebrated her birthday with dinner in Ellis with her family, Mitchell, Priscilla and Tessa. Mark Friday the 13th on your calendar for a fish fry at the American Legion in McCracken from 5-7.

I read this in Wednesday’s Hutch News about Jackie Stiles. Jackie was one of 12 individuals selected for the 2015 National High School Hall of Fame. She was best known for her basketball abilities, but in reality was one of the greatest athletes Kansas ever saw when she starred at Claflin from 1993-1997.In basketball she scored 3,603 points. In her senior year she averaged 46 points a game. On the track she led Claflin to a pair of Class 1A state titles, won 14 gold medals and a pair of silvers. As a junior she became the first female in Kansas history to win the 400 meters, the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. After graduation she played at Southwest Missouri State which she led to the 2001 Final Four. She is now an assistant with Missouri State.

The Hutchinson Salthawk girls’ basketball team beat the Garden City Buffaloes 44-33 on Thursday night 3/ 5 in the sub-state semi-final. Jenna Higgins scored 12 points on two 3 pointers and 6/8 at the free throw line. This was the first post-season win by the Lady Salthawks in 5 five years. They then lost in the sub-state final to the #1 ranked undefeated Maize Eagles on Saturday night 3/7 in Maize 63-

50. Jenna tallied 13 points in making three 3 pointers and 4/4 at the free throw line. Their season record was 14-8, with all of their losses coming to state ranked teams with 3 losses to Maize. Chuck and Zach Higgins attended the Garden City game.

Clinton Cole, senior at Northern Valley High School, scored the game winning goal after team mate Ame Baird threw a full court pass with .09 seconds left against Logan. He scored 22 points for the Huskies for the game. Clinton Cole is the son of Jim and Monica Cole and grandson of Bill Cole.

Congratulations to Jared Casey, son of Jerry and Karen Casey, Plainville, who is Knights of Columbus Free Throw State Champion as he made 22-25 free throws.

Kayla Weskamp and Nicole Tacha, plus two dogs, were overnight guests of Shirley Higgins Saturday evening. They will visit with Lindsey Tacha in Ness City from Sunday – Wednesday.

Les and Rose Diehl, Topeka, spent the weekend in McCracken. Rose is recovering from her surgery and looks and feels much better. Kathy Casey and Catherine motored to McCracken for the weekend. Their visitors were Diana McNair, John and Melanie Zeller, Arline Rues, Charlotte Ochs and Shirley Higgins.

On Friday Roy and Phyllis Conrad had a wonderful visit with Ben and Margaret Brenner at Ness City. If you want to know a lot about St Mary's Catholic Church and also the cemetery, just ask Ben. It was very interesting and enjoyable. As we were leaving Bill and Sharon Lovitt came to visit.

Katie Elias, daughter of Travis and Tina Elias received her medical esthetician certification from the Crave Beauty Academy, Wichita. Attending the ceremony and dinner at Logan's Steakhouse were Travis, Tina, and Tanner Elias, Brook Wark, Carolyn and Dave Davenport, Dennis and Jeannie Elias, Fred and Claudine Turley, Fred, Jr., Shelly Turley and granddaughter.

Shirley, two grandkids and two kids ate dinner in Hays Sunday evening.....my birthday!!!

Jimmy Brack, 6’2” center for Alexander Grade School, put up a shot in the closing minutes to defeat LaCrosse by a score of 47-42.
