Addie Mills visited with Chris Zimmerman on Sunday afternoon. She was a Sunday overnight guest of Rev. and Mrs. Robert Brown at Holton. Enroute home on Monday Addie visited with Cellie Klee and son Jay at their home on Council Grove City Lake.

Jennifer Wierman, daughter of Ray & Laura Wierman - Bennington, KS will graduate from Oklahoma State Univ. on May 4. Graduation party was held at Ray & Laura's house Saturday, April 27. Attending were: Jerrod Wierman, grandparents Francis & Roberta Wierman and Wendell & Gladys Hinman. Also in attendance was Jill, Brayden & Haley Herschbach of Liberty MO, Marilyn & George Sommers of Silver Lake, Paula & Stephanie Greenway of McCracken. Many friends/neighbors visited throughout the afternoon.

IBM International Foundation has given $500.00 to the McCracken Historical Museum. It is a Matching Grant in addition to the $1,000.00 donated to the museum by W.G.Turner of Loveland, Colorado. Gary was an employee of IBM. We are grateful for Gary and his wife Elaine's continued support for the museum.

Birzer and Dianne Birzer, Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Birzer Stewart, LaCester, Washington; Sharon Kay Birzer, and Mallory Birzer Rebin, Seattle, Washington; Marven Hurtt, Centerville, Washington, Jonie Hurtt and Marisa Hurt, Portland, Oregon. Don Birzer, Colby; Joshua Underwood, Las Vegas, Nevada. Richard and Peggy were married at St.Mary's.

Nicole, Clark and Madison Kirk of Burrton came on Friday night to celebrate the birthday of Marge Moran. Sunday evening Josh, Ellen and Josh Moran invited Marge, Michele and Jason Moran to their home in Great Bend to celebrate Marge's birthday with a dinner with all Marge's favorite foods.


A Mother-Daughter Salad Supper for the McCracken and surrounding Communities will be held Sunday, May 5. Program, Wedding Traditions, at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Salad Supper. Each one is asked to bring a salad and some Memorabilia from their wedding. If not married, bring something from a friend's wedding and or parents/sibling/etc. The event will be held at the McCracken United Methodist Church 307 1st St. Note to younger girls in attendance: there may just be some pizza for you????

Les & Rose Diehl, Martin Higgins, Linda Sloan Dale, Mark McCormick, Garrison Herdman, Pat Derr, Kenny Foster, Diana & Arky McNair, Galen Watkins, Norma McNair, Tony Rues, Will Rues, Bruce Davis, Hunter Davis, Bob Fear and Tony Harp are those who helped with 'clean up' day Saturday at the McCracken Golf Club. All was much appreciated.

John and Janice Stull flew from Wichita to Atlanta where they took at bus tour of CNN and Coca Cola in Atlanta, The Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina; Sky Ride to view Stone Mountain; Boone Plantation; took a Harbor cruise of Fort Sumter; toured Tyree Islands; Charleston, Light House, South Carolina; Savannah; all kinds of flowering plants and bushes and they were very glad that the bus driver was doing the driving with all the traffic.
A very nice crowd attended the hamburger/French fry supper and Relay for Life desserts at the American Legion Saturday evening.

Tanner Higgins and his date Ms. Joey Wood were chosen King and Queen by the students at the Hutch High Prom Saturday night. Rose said to ask Jerry if they cooked steaks at the school after the prom!!

Roy and Phyllis Conrad attended a B B Q for Brandon Neeley, Payton, Colorado at the home of his parents, Chris and Rhonda Zordel, Spearville. Also attending were his grandparents, Albert and Louise Zordel, Ransom.. Brandon is being deployed to Afghanistan in June. Chris surprised Brandon by having the group called Patriot Guard Riders show up to give him an honorable send off. The groups were from Ness City, Ness County, Hays and Dodge City area. What an honor & privilege for Brandon when they drove up in the yard to give him a honorable send off. What a sight to see.

May 1963

McCracken Bankers Elmore Ryan, John R. Elmore, Jr. and Donald Buster with three other men bought the controlling interest in the Thomas County National Bank in Colby.

Benjamin Steinshouer, 85, died May 1 in Hoxie. Burial was in McCracken.

Caleb I. Nowles 76, died May 2, at Rush County Hospital. Burial was in McCracken.

Carper Drug Store is located at 712 Main Street in LaCrosse.

A marriage license was issued to Norman Pfannenstiel and Glenda Herdman.

Mrs. Emma Joseph celebrated her 78th birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Doerr.

Mrs. Grace Metz won 1st place in the 7th District Literature Contest with her poem, “Dreams, the Dynamo of Destiny”.

MHS graduates 8 Seniors: Judith Brown, Marilyn Conrad, Terry Herdman, Martin Higgins, Reggie Irvin, Daniel Rein, Mark Reinhardt and Mary Zeller.

Mr. and Mrs. Dight House have moved to the former Ed Allbert farm which they recently purchased.

Mrs. Oscar (Eva Ream) Elias 81, died May 22 after a brief illness.

The Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren churches in McCracken have merged into one.

MHS placed 1st among Class D schools in the Kansas State Scholarship Contest.

Bob Fear was pictured holding two channel cat fish he caught in the Rattlesnake Creek near St. John. He was fishing with his son Bobby, Kay Fear, Charles Jacobs, John and Pete Rixon.

Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Skinner will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 2 at McCracken Hotel.

Wm. F. Ramsey died May 14 in Hays.

Gary Turner graduated from Otis High School on Thursday.

The Brownell last day of school dinner was preceded by a special recognition for Mrs. Margaret Hair who is retiring as the first and second grade teacher this year. Mrs. Russell Squier was in charge of the recognition.

A daughter, Lori Ann, was born May 29 to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Elder, Bison.
