Madison Kirk received her First Communion on Saturday, May 2, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson. Attending were her parents, Clark and Nicole Kirk, Burrton; her grandmothers, Carol Kirk, Burrton and Marge Moran, McCracken; and aunts and uncles, Michele Moran, Jason Moran, Rush Center; John and Ellen Moran, Great Bend and David and Stacy Moran, Wichita. A luncheon was served at Nicole and Clark's home.

Our sympathy to the family of Wendell Hinman, 82, who died April 29, 2015 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Ralph and Mabel Plotner Hinman and was born December 16, 1932. He married Gladys A. Wagner on September 18, 1952 at Hope Lutheran Church. They were married for 62 years. He is survived by Gladys, three sons, Greg, Larry and Wade and two daughters, Lynn Hinman-Reckling and Laura Hinman-Wierman, two brothers Clyde and Ronald, one sister, Donna Miner, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held at Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center and burial was in McCracken City Cemetery. We will miss him, he was a fine gentleman. He was a 1950 graduate of McCracken High School and was a farmer and resident of Ness County all his life.

Cindy Rogers, Betty Hafenstine and her sisters and Joe Rogers celebrated Cindy's birthday at a dance in Great Bend at Deagos on Saturday. The band was the Rayburn family.

On Tuesday, April 28th, the Danny J. Petz FFA Scholarship was awarded to Brianna Reeves, a La Crosse High School Senior, at the High School Honors Program. Brianna is planning on attending Colby Community College and major in Veterinary Technology. The award was presented by Patricia Petz, wife of Danny.

Cameron & Courtney Horesky attended the Royals – Detroit baseball game Sunday afternoon in Kansas City. Several Rush County fans were in attendance Saturday; Chet Irvin came home with a baseball.

Jean and Shelley Oelkers, Kay Hardwick, Dyan Suppes attended the Neidenthal reunion Saturday in Grove, Oklahoma.

Guests of Priscilla Jacobs over the weekend were Neal and Amy Jacobs. They attended her parents’ 60th wedding anniversary celebration, Virgil and Lou Windholz, on Saturday, in Ness City.

The salad supper and antique jewelry display at the United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon was lovely.

Congratulations to Vicky Unrein on her election to Kansas State University cheering squad. She is the beautiful daughter of James and Diana Unrein.

Babe and Arlene went to Pinecrest Country Place, Rose Hill, Ks. Saturday, May 2. They attended the wedding of Dean Gilbert’s Great Granddaughter, Savannah Morris to Levi Mahlandt. The theme of the wedding was Western. Groomsmen were dressed in boots, jeans, plaid shirts, and Cowboy Hats. The Bridesmaids wore pretty salmon colored dresses with boots. The wedding was outdoors. Guests sat on hay bales. The proud Grandpa Dean officiated at the ceremony. What a happy time for him and his family.

Arthur Names gave a talk at the high school about his play, “Old Sweethearts”. The junior girls who took part were Josephine Neal, Louise Sieling, Phoebe Weesner, Marie Juvenal, Verda Brackney and Ida Mae Kueffer.

Art Names purchased the Strand Theatre from R.C. Buxton and had a ‘pretty girl’ contest Tuesday. Bryan “Buck” Start won the prize for being the hardest looking customer in ladies dress and Robert Lovitt got first money as being the loveliest lady of them all.
