A Sunflower table runner will be given away at the Jail/Museum during rodeo time. It was designed, pieced and quilted by Mark Horchem of Ransom.

Blue pens with 'Mustang Country, McCracken Jail/Museum, McCracken, KS 67556' will be given away for those who visit the museum.

McCracken Public Library will be selling raffle tickets during rodeo for an embroidered hand-quilted quilt in pink and white.

Brad Penka will be scanning old pictures on Saturday, July 11 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at McCracken Public Library. This is an excellent way to preserve your old pictures. Brad has done several displays of pictures of the county at the Rush County Fair. He also has written several books. They will be available for purchase and he will sign them.

A 1998 Rush County calendar has been given to the Jail/Museum. One picture shows the McCracken Town Team Football team in about 1910. Members included George Hicks, Ivy Irvin, Owen McKittrick, Vernie Irvin, Glenn Ryan, Audice Thompson, Louie Irvin, Glenn Stock, Claude Stephens, Leon Lovitt, Mark Cutler, Harry Grumbein, Ralph Elmore, Birdie Kerns and Onas Elmore.

Renewals at the Jail/Museum are Jay and Maureen George, Gladys Hinman, Francis and Roberta Wierman, Juanita Caviness, Galen Lee Oelkers, Charmaine and Robert Wolfe, Frederick and Louis Otero, Leslie and Sheryl Rogers. Stephanie Stephens and Shelly Oelkers.

$500.00 was received from IBM which is a matching fund from retired employee William Gary Turner. IBM sends one-half of Gary's donation of $1,000.00

McCracken Public Library is hosting an open house during the rodeo/alumni weekend on Saturday, July 11th beginning at 9 am. On display will be old/antique toys and games and a brief history about the toy/game. The display will run through the first of August. Also stop by the library for refreshments during the open house on Saturday, July 11th beginning at 9 am. See you there.

Francis Wierman was honored on June 25 at Locust Grove Village as “man of the week” in conjunction with Father’s Day celebration. He was also honored for his WW II military service in the Battle of the Bulge. American Legion Auxiliary Officer Ida Meyers presented a plaque to Francis & military salute was given by active duty military SGT Grumbein. Out of town guests attending celebration were: George & Marilyn Sommers and John & Carlie Gurske of Silver Lake and Ken Brackney & Shirley Gable of Ness City.

Jolene and Chris Brackney stopped by Walter and Janey Rogers during the Old Settlers Reunion in Ness City. Pat and Betty Keener came for a visit later and stayed four or five days, then their daughter, Terri Cox came for a visit. They had all kinds of company which was very nice....

Shirley and Tammy took a road trip Saturday. They went north of Russell, drove on the outskirts of Paradise, Natoma, Codell, then through Plainville, Stockton, Glade where they were doing road construction, Speed then their destination, Logan. While in Logan they visited with Kyra Horesky and toured the town. They went to Dane Hansen Museum, to P- Burg to the Chubby Pickle for lunch. It was a fun trip. Bryant and his family were harvesting. On their way home they went to mass in Plainville.The last time I was in Logan was when I was library chairman and Alvina Foster was the librarian.

History September 1955:

Beginners in grade school: Deborah Rogers, Dixie Walker, Paula Zeller, Sarah Casey, Danny Petz, Douglas Higgins, Terry Peters, Mike Peters, Benny Rogers, Kaaren Casey, Elaine Wetzel, Linda Irvin, Sharon Mills & Penny Irvin. Perry J. Irvin broke his leg while ‘coasting’ down Brick Hill.

MHS beat Schoenchen 62-44on Friday. High points were scored by Byron Gilbert and Bill Lovitt.

The grade school graduates: Gerald Barnes, Melissa House, Janice Myers, Allen Showalter, Dorothy Thompson and Judy Whitis.

New teachers are George Collis and Dale Crown.

There are 45 enrolled in high school and 106 in grade school.

Guy Conner will begin coaching in the Brownell High School.

Edith Pearson was honored Friday night with a potluck supper given in her honor for her twenty years of teaching.
