At the graveside services on Friday morning, July 15, of Mary Lynn Conrad Hopper, she was honored by the presence of a large contingent of officers of Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. They are workers and friends of Mary Lynn's son, Mike Hopper. They were all in official uniforms with Stetson hats. It added to the impressive service by Pastor Bryan Parker officiant.

Haily Gilbert and Brandt Rogers were married Saturday, July 16 at McCracken City Park.

Silas Albers and Megan Gerstner were married Saturday, July 16 at Shiloh Vineyard at rural Voda, Kansas.

Class members of 1958 that were here are as follows: Joyce Eisenhour, Marlene Funk, Norman Pfannenstiel, James Hanson, Furlen Irvin, Larry Holden, Gary Oller, and Arlene Gilbert. We were the first class to graduate from the new H.S. in 1958. This was also our 58th year to have graduated from MHS. Watch out for the party in 2018 when we'll celebrate our 60th!!!!. Never to be forgotten are classmates Perry Irvin, Karen Walker, Peggy Harper, and Dorothy Thompson. We appreciate Deb and Craig Rixon for use of their trailer and for Craig pulling us in his pick-up. We would also like to thank the Veterans that rode on the float to know how much they were appreciated for letting us recognize them. Where would we be without those that serve our country? Special note of gratitude to Carl Legleiter for letting us use his trailer and Jeff Butler for driving his pick-up to pull the trailer.

Jenna Higgins crossed off her first ‘bucket list’ wish, she attended the Kenny Chesney concert in Kansas City Saturday night.

Roy and Kathleen Langdon, Columbia, MO and their grandson Cory Langdon spent the week-end in McCracken. Dominic, Kayla and Jackson Weskamp, Nicole Tacha and Lucas Gatten enjoyed a trip to Colorado over rodeo weekend.

I thank all those who sent me cards after the death of Bill. They were so appreciated.

Rose Diehl and Arline Rues attended the band concert of middle school and high school students in Hays Saturday morning. Will Rues was a member as he attended band camp.

Dave and Carolyn Davenport spent rodeo weekend as guests of Ty Elias. Quintin returned home with Grandma and Grandpa on Sunday to spend the week. A lot of time was spent at the Kansas Cosmosphere, swimming, the zoo, going to the movies and to his favorite, The Alley. He returned to McCracken on Thursday.

An 80th birthday celebration was held for Genita Hughes in Rush Center Saturday evening. Many, many friends and relatives attended.

History Notes 1977

Lorrie Morgan graduated from Sterling College in Elementary education May 21. Paulette Healy has been named a Seaton scholar at Kansas State University. West Kansas Track Club championships were held in LaCrosse. Winners were Kaira Miller; Mike Stull, Doug Elias; Eric Washaliski; Shannon McKinney, Fred Taylor and Craig Stull. Coach Bill Lovitt greeted his players for the Brownell American Legion. Members are Greg Horlick, Bernard Flax, Rich Flax, Lennie Zimmerman, Phillip Bauer, Larry Buster, Joe Conner, Bob Birnbaum, Chuck Higgins, Mark McCormick, Layne Morgan, Brad Lovitt, Jeff Kenworthy, David Evel and Les Rogers. In the opener they defeated Grainfield 22-9 with Layne Morgan picking up the win. Les Rogers led all hitters with a perfect 5 for 5 and Larry Buster chipped in with three. In the K-18 game with Otis on Sunday, Jeff McCormick, Jim Cole and Neal Jacobs pitched as they won 28-2. Jerry Casey led McCracken to a 10-0 win to remain unbeaten in K-18 play. They then romped over Olmitz, 15-1. Troy Zinn paced the hitting attack with 3 hits. David Wetzel moved from Hays to Alexander where he is employed by Lon Wells. The class of 1952 held a 15 year class reunion over Memorial weekend. A social hour and supper was held at the Hi-Way Café in Alexander and the rest of the evening was spent at the VFW in LaCrosse. Class members attending were Allan Thompson, LeRoy Gilbert, Pat Keener, Richard Gordon, Barbara Davis DeJean, Shirley Lovitt Higgins, Charles Jacobs and Walter Rogers. Jerry Higgins was selected as the most inspirational baseball player at Hutchinson Junior College by the baseball team. Robert Foster has graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta having completed an associate degree in commercial art. Patty Littler is in Blacksburg, Virginia where she is employed in a clothing store until August. Kenneth Higdon was transferred to Hadley Hospital in Hays from Wichita where he is recovering from injuries suffered in a car accident.
