The McCracken Community wreath committee needs monies for 175 wreaths.  We are accepting donations of $5.00 for 1 wreath. Our goal is $800.00. Plans are to decorate graves of Veterans in the McCracken City/St. Mary's' Cemeteries during the Advent Season.  Wreaths are to be placed on the graves the Friday after Thanksgiving and leave them until January 1. We do have storage available in the attic of the UMC so we can use them year after year.  If anyone pays by check, it should be made to McCracken United Methodist Church.  Thank you for offering to do this.

The beautification meeting was held Sunday, August 13th and there were 7 people in attendance.  We discussed the need to raise more funds in order to begin the Phase II project (the city park landscaping, upgrades and adding new recreational items for the entire family).  Then the Fall Festival was discussed.  This year we will be sponsoring a Fall Festival on Saturday October 8th beginning at 3pm with children's games and activities (lots of fund things, some new and some old) followed by a hayrack ride then the chili cook off at 5:00.  There will be vendors there displaying there wonderful items (maybe some great gifts for Christmas presents). If you want to be a vendor please contact Susan Davis at PO Box 175 McCracken, Ks 67556, davis.sue23@yahoo.com or 785-394-2208 (leave a message please) for details.  All persons interested in entering their chili are strongly encouraged to do so (same contact information as above vendors).  There is an entry fee of $20.00 and great grand prize for the winner. The tasting and judging of the chili will be completed by the public.  The meal will consist of chili, cinnamon rolls a drink and condiments for $5.00.  Following the meal there will be a pie auction (several pies made by some of the communities best pie makers) and then there will be a community sponsored auction with several great items from patrons of McCracken.  The items will be named at a later date so be on the look out to see just what must have things we come up with.  To wrap up the great family day at the Fall Festival we will have a campfire and sing along with smores treat packages for everyone that is interested in roasting marshmallows.
The committee also discussed having an auction in the near future with many great items (watch for the date and items to be auctioned).  The next meeting will be on September 11th @ 1:30 in the McCracken Library.
