Hampton Reminiscences:

Chet Rogers: Back in the 30's, one afternoon at Hampton a big dust cloud rolled in from the northwest and school was let out early. I started to hot-foot it home, but Melvin Littler would have none of that and he took me home. When we drove in our yard you could barely see the house. I don't know how Melvin ever made it home.

Ruth Akers Yawger: I taught Hampton school two years, 1929-1930 and 1930-1931. My school board members were Basil Temple, Roy Langdon and Ross Baldwin. My pupils were James, Lorine, Donald, Wayne and Elbert Langdon, Ruby and Melvin Littler and Margaret Temple. I remember one day in the spring of my second year, it was such a lovely spring day. I told my husband Glenn, I would walk home after school. I left the school building about 4:30 P.M., had walked less than a mile when the wind changed to the north with sleet and snow - a blizzard! I made it to the first farm house where Lawrence and Elsie Curtis lived. I stayed with them. I called Glenn to tell him where I was. He had started to come for me, but got stuck, had to leave the car and walk back to the house. He came with team and wagon when the weather cleared. Elsie Curtis taught me how to make pie crust.
