Bryan Fear, Wichita, was here for Labor Day Weekend to visit his mother, Betty Fear, and friends.

Wheat cleaning is in progress, now all we need is rain.

Each season the Jail/Museum receives a pamphlet from the Cleveland (Ohio) Police Historical Society. The first museum they set up was in 1877. It was composed of a large, ornamental black walnut case, in which they kept burglars' tools captured by the police. One of their claims to fame is the famous detective, Eliot Ness. In the last four years they have sponsored a vintage police vehicle show. They hope to build or move to an existing facility in the near future.

The McCracken Rodeo was represented at the Brownell Labor Day Parade. Mark your calendars for the second weekend in July 2016 for the 30th anniversary rodeo. There will be a parade.

RCNews Sept 9 Kathy Hurd, Minneapolis, Minnesota spent the weekend with her parents, Bill and Sharon Lovitt in Ransom. On her way to Kansas she stopped in Lincoln, Nebraska where she stayed with her daughter, Audra, who is attending school at NU. Tammy Irvin was an overnight guest of Shirley Saturday night. Kathy came by for a quick visit on her way back home.

Tim Rues was featured in the Fall Issue of the Bald Eagle, a newspaper from Lecompton He celebrates 20 years in Lecompton and was pictured with a lovely cake. Tim is recognized as one of the leading Civil War historians in the state and many call for his expertise in this subject. He works to make Lecompton a true National Landmark. He keeps the building and grounds in immaculate condition so as to welcome visitors from all over the United States and many foreign countries. The state is fortunate to have Tim as a representative of our history.

Lori Folkerts has donated four books from Hampton Township containing records and minutes. What a treasure. We thank her very, very much.

Guests of Walter and Janey Rogers this past week were Pat and Betty Keener, Shawnee. This weekend his daughter, Terri Cox visited and they all attended the Moore Reunion on the weekend. They were joined by Brenda Keener.

Tony Rues, Rose Diehl, Kate, her friend Abbie, Will and friend Blake all attended the drive-in-movie in Kanapolis Friday night. They were joined by Cathy and Catherine Casey.

Les Diehl, Bruce Davis, Johnny Mac and Richard Showalter, Tony Harp, Sean Peters and Butch Harp all golfed in the LaCrosse Labor Day tournament on Sunday.

History Notes

November 1948: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Start have moved the house on the Frank Irvin farm into town and are presently remodeling it. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rein are moving from the farm to McCracken where they have purchased the property formerly used by the M.E. Church as a parsonage. Howard R. Barnard, 85, died of pneumonia.

January 1950: The old depot which stood north of the Mo Pac RR tracks has been torn down. G.W. Anderson bought the Donecker garage for storage purposes. Alvina McCormick is the new bookkeeper at the Western Light and Telephone Co. Sylvester Conrad has started work on a building north of the old opera house where he plans to have a package liquor store. Earl and Leo Brenner have bought the Campbell ranch from Noble Campbell. A first grade class of 27 students started school this week. Arlyn North, Roy Jones, Harold Dixon, Norman Anderson, Dwight Eisenhour, Norma Schuckman, Betty Pfaff, Kenny McCormick, David Norlin, Dennis Walker, Tena Vogle, Mike Cain, Billy Durand, Kyle Rodeman, Paul Ohlemeier, Karen Foos, Glenda Herdman, Patty Krimmer, Sheryl Rein, Vicky Irvin, Pauletta Schuckman, Carol Davis, Claudine Rein, Marilyn Higgins, Judy Gaschler, Linda Gaschler, Sharon McCaskey. Grade school has 127 students, high school 40. Population of McCracken is 538.

January 1951: $150,000.00 loss resulted from the fire at the Lubri-Gel Products Co. It will be rebuilt in Wakeeney. McCracken Implement was sold to L & W Implement of LaCrosse. Dr. F.K. Bowser will open an office in McCracken Hotel, Tuesday & Thursday. Arlene Ingraham and Lorraine Lacy will occupy the Schaumburg apartment this school year.
January 1953: Mrs. Nellie Dutton will retire as McCracken news correspondent for the RCNews. Her sister, Lida Floyd will continue writing. Rev. Leslie Andrews is the new pastor of the ME Church. Elsie Showalter has purchased the Willard Moses property in the west part of town. Population of Rush County is 7,183; McCracken 508, Alexander 181.

March 1953: Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Fraser purchased the City Café from Mrs. Leon Davenport. Floyd Thompson, Oscar B. Fear and LeRoy Gilbert will leave for induction. Dr. Spomer has closed his office in McCracken and will open an office in Larned. Ray Irvin delivered the first load of wheat to the Rodney Milling Co. testing 49 and was yielding 4 bushels. Joe Casey purchased the Marak house and moved in with his family.

January 1954: The EUB minister is Leslie Andrews. Fire destroyed Fay Jennings farm home. Virgil Cofer and LeeRoy Schuckman made a cross country trip to Washington D.C. on a farm mower to promote the mower Virgil manufactures in Ransom. Juanita Walker is employed at the Smoky Hill Air Force Base in Salina. Sgt. and Mrs. Thayne Jones returned home from Germany where they have been for three years. Leo LeClair is the new manager of the K-T Station. Pfc. Vic Higgins, who is stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas with the 1st Armored Division recently participated with the softball team which won the 4th Army Championship Award.

February 1955: Norma J. Peters has leased Neta’s Café from Mrs. Davenport will take charge Sunday; The family will live in the apartment above the café. Bob Huber will open an appliance store in the Dugan Building. Kay Fear, Albert Oller and Dean Gilbert left for induction Wednesday. MHS beat Schoenchen 62- 44 Friday with high points scored by Bill Lovitt and Byron Gilbert. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Davis recently moved to Larned where he will be employed by Humburgs. Dorothy Crotinger has been awarded a scholarship to attend KSU. Mr. and Mrs. Dell Klema and family are moving to Russell. Al Rues has purchased their store in McCracken.
