Deb Luft and Joyce Luft were in Hays on Friday to visit their grandmother, Ruth Yawger, in an early celebration of Grandparents Day.  They were joined by Al and Judy Hugh and Carolyn Thompson for a tour of Pat's Beef Jerky, Rock Haven, the Harold and Virginia Kraus ranch and supper at McCracken Café.  Virginia joined them for the supper.  The Kraus ranch is the location of Golden Springs Beach, which was a popular spot for swimming, fishing, boating and dancing in the 20's.  LaVern Fletcher was at the café and he remembered going to Golden Springs Beach.  An article in the McCracken Enterprise for May 1927 says "The new playground northeast of here known as Golden Springs Beach has a pool for swimmers, a motor boat on the pool, a passenger carrying aeroplane, dance floor and refreshment stands giving the place an appearance of a summer resort".  The resort was owned by Mike Unrein.  The Krauses have a framed picture of the resort taken from the newspaper.

D. McFarren sheds were destroyed, trees up-rooted and the windmill torn down.  On the Wm. Hinman farm the large barn was demolished, the garage torn down and part of the house was destroyed.
