The Jail Museum has purchased a postcard entitled “Harvest of F. Maxwell, 16 Miles East of McCracken, Kas.” from E-Bay with the help of Suzanne Randa. If anyone has knowledge of the Maxwell family, please let us know. It features a horse drawn binder, wagons to pick up the bundles, a hay stack and a steam engine. Also received by the museum is a metal receipt machine called The Wiz Register used by Percival Grumbein from Pennie Grumbein Avery. The machine was manufactured by American Sales Book Company Limited of Niagara Falls, New York. It has the original receipts which read, - Percy Grumbein, Insurance, Hail, Fire, Tornado etc. He sold and bought feed, eggs, cream, poultry and flour. On the receipt it lists eggs by the dozen, and by the case, flour, brand, shorts, corn chops, mixed feed and poultry. There was a reduction for bad eggs.

We are saddened by the death of Father Eugene P. Kenny. He first served St. Mary's Catholic Church from August 1, 1972 to October 1975. His infectious smile and kindness made him beloved by all those in the parish. In June 2013, he and Father Ultan Murphy celebrated 60 years as priests. They were ordained together. He left here to take up residence at the Priests Retirement Center in Wichita after serving a second time at St. Mary's. He was here from 1995 to 1998. It was always a delight to welcome an Irish priest as so many of our residents are Irish descendants.
