The City of McCracken Commissioners wish to thank all the citizens who have conserved water since we went to Stage 4. You have a done a terrific job of cutting usage by about 2/3 of what was being used.

The schedule for the Bunko club for November and December is as follows – November 11, November 19, December 2 and December 17. The Bunko begins at 6:30 p.m. During half-time there is time for dessert.

Our sympathy to the family of Doris Eileen Schaffer, 86, who died October 16, 2013 at LaCrosse. She was born to Henry and Mary Wasinger Higgins on April 19, 1927. She married Robert H. Schaffer on October 19, 1943 in McCracken. He died on February 22, 1987. Those brothers and sisters pre- deceasing her were five brothers, Andrew, Nick, Pat, Carl and Lester Higgins, four sisters, Lucy Vogle, Kate Ryan, Helen Withuhn and Goldie Showalter. She is survived by a son, Jim and a daughter Angela. She is a descendant of Ness County pioneers. She was a supporter of the Jail/Museum.

Word has been received regarding the one car accident that killed McCracken Rodeo Queen candidate, Jessica Rudell of Oakley. She was a student at Colby Community College. She is the daughter of Francis and Pamela Rudell, Oakley.
Springfield Trinity High School JV volleyball team placed first in the Fair Grove Tournament this past week. They won three games back to back to place 1st. Nicole Tacha is a member of the Trinity team. She said Fair Grove usually beat everyone but this year Trinity won. Congrats.

Kim Louis Huxman, 62, died October 11, 2013 in Hays. He was born January 17, 1961 the son of Rex and Jean Conkright Huxman. He was married to Paula Horchem and two children were born of this union, Lana Vaughn and Scott Huxman. Kim was a good athlete playing basketball for Ransom High School and he played baseball for Bill Lovitt’s Brownell American Legion Team along with Don Irvin, Tom Tomlinson, Rich and Doug Higgins from McCracken. Burial was in the Arnold Cemetery.

Lynnette Doornbos, John and Taylor, Sandra Jacobs and Tessa Jacobs attended the Rodeo at the Centennial Center in Salina Saturday evening. It was reported that it was ‘excellent.’Bryce Conner and Chet Irvin play football for the Gamblers in Hays. They have a winning record.

Chet and Patricia Rowan, Mickey, Jaden and Makayla , Vine Grove, Kentucky, spent last week with her parents, Sid and Cathy Osborn and Sid Jr.

The soup supper benefit for Kenny Foster held at the American Legion Saturday was a success. We appreciate all who donated food and attended. WONDERFUL! On Sunday there was a large group of volunteers working at Kenny’s house.

October 21 1953 Diz Washliski, Vic Higgins, Bet McCormick, Alex McCormick, Lee Depperschmidt were inducted into the armed services. Those inducted at the same time as the above were Garth Grissom, Jerry Boxberger, Jimmie Blevins, Robert Stenzel, Jr. Horack, Norman Owings, Ray Pleasant, Charles Selden, Wilbur Berg and Bertrand Thompson. A reunion was held on Monday October 21 at Golden Corral in Hays. Those attending were Norman and Karen Owings, Diz and Wilma Washaliski, Jerry and Wanda Boxberger, Bet and Jeanette McCormick, Lee Depperschmidt, Wanda McCormick and Shirley Higgins.

Gerald & Edna Walker, Pat Derr, Ed & Nita Caviness, Larry & Donna Clark played golf this past week in Fall Church Falls State Park in Tennessee. Pat went home with Nita and returned home to McCracken this week. The family has been going to Tennessee for the past 18 years.

McCracken Library Spook Parade for kids at 5 pm on Halloween, the 31st. Costume contest for awards & prizes. Hotdogs & snacks following the parade at the park, weather permitting.

Congratulations to Chas Rogers and Carin Johnson who will be married Saturday, October 26, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Hays.

Cellie Klee celebrated her 90th birthday with a family gathering at her home on Council Grove City Lake on Saturday. Those in attendance included Patty Klee Schmitt and her husband Tom, their sons Tyron and Skyler; Michelle Klee Peregon; Jackie Klee Colgan and her husband Kevin and their children Katie, Kara and Chris; Kevin and Susan Klee and their daughters, Victoria and her husband Trent, Brittany and her fiancé Rich and Lizzie; Jay Klee and Addie Mills. Daughter Nan was unable to attend.

A 100th birthday party for Katherine Roben Kochenower was held October 19 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Ottawa. Seventy five guests attended. Her gifts included cash, gift cards, six pack of PBR and a pint of Old Crow! She and her late husband, Floyd Allison Kochenower, Sr. had one son Floyd, Jr. She also has four grandchildren, Lynn, Ginger, Diane and Fred and six great grandchildren.

Rev. Larry Brock and wife Denise met Aunt Addie Mills at Tracy’s in LaCrosse for lunch last Tuesday. They also visited with Aunt Ruthetta Irvin at Long Term Care. Larry is the son of the late Norman “Stubby” Brock and Patty Klee Brock.
Marge Moran attended Grandparents Day at Burrton for her granddaughter Madison Kirk.

At the Hoisington Volleyball Quad matches there were grandchildren playing for the different teams. From Trinity. Emilee Dechant and Konner Brening; from Plainville, Amy Casey and Brianna Casey; from Ellsworth, Shannon Keith. Grandparents attending were Louise Dechant, Liebenthal, Fern Zimmerman; LaCrosse, Don and Mary Catherine Brening, Hutchinson; Carolyn Thompson, McCracken.

Arline Rues and Cindy Rogers attended the funeral for Father Eugene Kenny at the Priests Retirement Center in Wichita on Friday. Others who attended were Nicole Kirk and Rhonda Allen.

Sandy Emerson, Pueblo, is a renewing member of the Jail/Museum. She also gave a donation in memory of Roberta Juvenal (the late wife of H. D. (Curly) Juvenal.

The 3rd annual Ransom Oktoberfest will be held next Saturday.
Mmes. Ruth Tanck, Esther Pickett, Mildred Rein, Rose Showalter, Kate Ryan and Frances Janke attended the Ladies Golf tournament in Ness City.
John Elias is a resident of the LaCrosse Rest Home.
Lonnie Irvin and Chuck Higgins, teachers and coaches at USD #395 will attend a basketball clinic at Hutchinson in early November.
The LaCrosse Furniture Factory is building a new 9,000 foot addition to the present facility.
The LaCrosse Junior High Band is under the direction of Mrs. Arlene Gilbert who is new to the district. She is in her 21st year as a band instructor.
Vernon Wittman has been offered a part time job as custodian in McCracken Schools.
McCracken area young homemakers have formed a new extension homemaker unit. Members are Peggy Janke, Sheryl Rogers, Sharon Irvin, Corinne Baldwin, Teresa Wetzel, Shelly Oelkers, Connie Conner and Debbie Rogers.
Robert Mason received his Master’s Degree from FHSU.
MHS defeated Gorham in their homecoming game.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lyle (Pauline) Foster of Brownell.
Ralph E. Tanck, 68, died October 22.
Lisa Schuckman and Scott Ermey were married October 15 in Hays, Ramona Rae Schadel and Jeffery Allen Johnson announce their engagement.
Kevin Casey is a freshman enrolled at Dodge City Community College. Stella Campbell died October 15 in Kansas City.
