The McCracken Main Street Literary Society met on Tuesday night at the McCracken Public Library. Those attending were Callie Weber, Anita Butler, Kathy Holopirek, Ruth Crawshaw, Shirley Higgins, Suzanne Randa, Carolyn Thompson, Susan Rebel and Priscella Jacobs. Unable to attend was Austin McGaughey.

Al and Judy Hugh and Carolyn Thompson attended the Hays Book Club on Sunday evening at the Smoky Hill Country Club. The talk was on “The Orphan Train”. It was about a success story for three siblings who got off the train in Bellville, Kansas, and were adopted into wonderful families. The speaker is involved in the museum about the Orphan Train in Concordia. They have a restored railroad car which has the small bench seats the children used on their trip from New York City. The train would stop in most county seats and the children downloaded for viewing and hopefully adoption.

There will be a reception at Cedar Village dining room on Saturday, October 29, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in Ness City in honor of the 102nd birthday of Lucille Crotinger Moore. You may send cards to Cedar Village Long Term Care, 312 Custer, Room 11 S., Ness City, KS 67560 . She is an aunt of Gerald Crotinger.

David and Janet Dennis and Carolyn Thompson attended the musical “Wicked” at Century 11 on Saturday afternoon in Wichita.

Grab a brush as there is going to be painting at the Rodeo Grounds Saturday, October 29 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Don’t forget the spook parade Saturday, October 29 beginning at the library. Trick or treatin’ will begin right afterwards.

Ali Ault and Carol Weber are collecting any donations for prizes for bingo on the afternoon of Saturday, December 10. This is the day Santa will come for his annual visit. We will take any items of money.

Mark your calendars for the Firemen’s hamburger feed with all the trimmins’ November 11 beginning at 6:00.

The McCracken Pride committee appreciates everyone who participated with Fallfest 2016! We are grateful to live in such a giving community and appreciate everyone who made Fallfest 2016 the best yet. We all appreciate the McCracken Alumni for sponsoring the kid's section. It was an incredible addition. The list is too long to list everyone individually, but know that we could not do it without each and every one.

We appreciate your generous support and hopefully we will continue to improve McCracken. Vicki and Pat Salsbury, Topeka, were weekend guests of Rose and Les Diehl and worked Fallfest Tim Rues and friend Kathleen Wallace were weekend guests of Cathy and Ron Casey and Arline Rues Cathy and Ron and Alex Casey were at their house in McCracken this weekend for Fallfest.

Dave Libberton donated the ‘cornerstone’ from the McCracken High School to be raffled. The winner then gave it to the McCracken Jail Museum. It lists who built the school and when, who was on the school board at the time.

Lisa Schuckman Baus was one of the vendors for the Fallfest. Was great seeing her. Roy and Kathleen Langdon, Columbia, were here for the ‘festival’.

Austin McGaughey drove some of the residents from the Ellis County nursing home to the festivities on Saturday.

Kerri Morgan placed 1st in the chili cook off contest. Congrats. Mary Lovitt and daughter Kelsey McCafferty, Wichita, were weekend guests of Shirley. We read/saw on TV where Ron Baker has signed with the New York Knicks. We are all pleased.How about those Chicago Cubs??? First time in 71 years.....

Les and Sheryl Rogers, Mike Conner and Lori Woods were in attendance at the KC Chiefs – New Orleans Saints football game Sunday in Kansas City.

Congratulations to the LaCrosse girls’ volleyball team on their 1st place win in the sub-state tournament in Stockton on Saturday. They will participate at State in Hays this weekend.

Cameron and Courtney Horesky are sight-seeing in Tennessee and adjoining states.
