Our sympathy to the family of Helen Koerner 88, Ness City who died November 2, 2016. She was the wife of Ervin “Blackie” Koerner, he deceased her. They had eleven children. Ones who are connected to McCracken are Karen and Jerry Casey and Janice and Adam Showalter and families. The Koerners lived on a farm southeast of McCracken.

What a joy it was to see the many vehicles parked on Main Street in McCracken on Friday evening for the fund raiser for the McCracken Firefighters. Our thanks to them for keeping us safe.

It was an honor to see all the American flags out for Veterans day. My favorite one was the flag at the Nickel Cemetery on the Liebenthal road. The Oelkers are in charge of it. Thanks.

Carolyn Thompson attended the musical, Once Upon a Mattress, at Ellsworth on Friday afternoon. The entire grade school from Ellsworth and the middle school from Kanopolis were in attendance. They all participated from their seats with the dance number led by the cast.

Lynn's sister, Diane Carswell took their grandmother, Kathryn Kochenower, age 103, to vote last Tuesday. Imagine what Kathryn has seen in her lifetime.

Lynn Kochenower went to the Veterans dinner at the Golden Corral with Norbert and Else Urban on Monday. Bert Jacobs went along as he and Norbert are both veterans.

Don’t forget the hamburger feed with all the trimmings, Friday, November 11 beginning at 6:00 p.m. It will be held at the Fireman’s Building on Main Street in McCracken sponsored by the Firemen. Free will donation.

Saturday, November 12th at 5:00 p.m. the Library is hosting their fall fundraiser held at the McCracken Community Building on the corner of 1st and Beech. This year we are having delicious casseroles and desserts. With your free will donation we would like to purchase new book shelves for our kids. We will also be drawing the winner of our beautiful quilt made by Tina Barber Vogle. You can still purchase your raffle tickets at the library and during our dinner.

For all you quilters the Shafer Art Gallery in Great Bend is showing the award winning quilts from The National Quilt Museum through December 8, 2016. Gallery hours are 10a.m. – 5p.m. Mon-Sat.

Our sympathy to the family of JoAnn Hardwick Neidenthal who died October 29,2016 at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw, Oklahoma. Her sister, Jean Oelkers and brother, Richard Hardwick both live in Rush County. Graveside services were held in LaCrosse.

Our sympathy to the family of Gordon Wimer who died October 26, 2016 at his home in Bison. He was born February 19, 1951 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He was the son of Roy and Vivian Thiessen Wimer. Memorial services were held by Janousek Funeral Home in LaCrosse. His mother and all but one sibling were in attendance.

Jerry, Jodi, Tanner and Chuck attended the K-State - Oklahoma State football in Manhattan on Saturday. Arlene Gilbert and Shirley Higgins attended the Gordon Wimer services in LaCrosse on Saturday.

McCracken Pride is entering a contest sponsored by Golden Belt Community Foundation. We are one of 4 contestants in Rush County. The winner receives a $5,000.00 grant gift and is has to help our youth. We are asking for the funds to be given to us to provide a new piece of playground equipment in our City Park. You have to vote between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on November 29 at the E-Z mart in LaCrosse. Let’s do this!!! It depends on your vote....your vote will count on November 29th!!

The Halloween Spook parade sponsored by the McCracken Public Library was a huge success. There were over 40 ‘spooks’ parading to the ME Church for hot dogs.

Shirley Higgins, Carol Heiman, Kathleen Kuchar and Carolyn Thompson attended the Service of Ordination of Christine Wagner at the Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney on Sunday afternoon.  Christine is the leader of their Dream group.
