Michael and Jerridy Morgan and boys were unintentionally missed as guests of Pat Derr Thanksgiving Day.
 
Those who helped decorate our City Park for Christmas were: Roy and Phyllis Conrad, Wendell and Gladys Hinman, Twila Higgins, Jean Schutte, Bet McCormick, Lance McCormick and Nicole ?.
 
Those children attending story hour at the McCracken library Saturday morning were John and Tayler Doornbos, Rylan, Zoe, Quinn, Saydie and Kameryn Anderson, Dalton and Clay North. The children were read the story “Snow What Fun” and they made snow men.

On Thanksgiving Day, Sharon & John Irvin hosted dinner for Susan & Dennis Walker of Dalhart, TX, Tom & Penny Betz of Bazine, Stacy Betz & his friend Terri, and her daughter Talia, Vicky Overley of Antonino, Stephen Anderson of Brownell, and Sally Irvin of McCracken.  Lance & Jessie Irvin of Wichita and Kayla & Allen Casey came later that Turkey Day night to stay for the weekend. Sharon Anderson also stopped by after work on Thanksgiving Day afternoon for coffee.
 
Carol Brown, the maker of the handcrafted quilt recently displayed at Boondocks in McCracken, drew the winner's name on December 1st.  The winner was Becki Gutheri of Ellis.  Congratulations to Becki!  Thank you to all that purchased tickets toward the chance of winning this beautiful quilt with matching pillows made by Carol Brown and Marjorie Sloan.  The proceeds go to the McCracken Beautification Project.  Our next phase will be adding park benches to Main Street and planting trees in the City Park.
 
 Bruce and Sue Davis spent Thursday in Hutchinson visiting Brian and Lisa Davis and grandchildren.
 
A donation was received from Mary Beth Corrigan, Salem, OR for our beautification project.

McCracken Faith Sharing group met Thursday, December 2 at the home of Bet and Jeanette McCormick for their Christmas dinner.  Prior to the dinner they went to the home of Francis and Julia Zeller, Sylvester Conrad and Joann Micheli to sing Christmas Carols with Father Rene accompanying them on the guitar.  Those attending were Arline Rues, Twila Higgins, Jeanette McCormick, Jean Schutte, Phyllis Conrad, Shirley Higgins and Carolyn Thompson.  Father Rene also enjoyed the beautiful Christmas decorations in St. Mary’s Church.  He showed beautiful scenes of the Philippines on the TV and entertained us with his Magic Mike.

Our sympathy to the family of Jenny M. (Halbleib) Kufahl, 33, who died November 27, 2010.  Jenny was born July 10, 1977 in Quinter to Dave and Judy (Linden) Halbleib.  She graduated from Ransom High School, Fort Hays State University and had a Masters in School Counseling from Emporia State University.  She married Ryan Kufahl at Ellis on July 14, 2001.  She was a teacher and counselor for Turner High School in Kansas City and recently a counselor for State Street Elementary in Topeka.  Survivors include her husband, Ryan, children, Logan and Kinsley, parents, Dave and Judy Halbleib, sisters, Becky Scheuerman and Kim Chesney, and grandmother, Eleanor Halbleib. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Reva Linden and Robert Halbleib.  Services were at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka.  Memorials may be given to the Jenny Kufahl Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Homse, 2801 SW Uriah Road, Topeka KS 66614

The Jail/Museum has received a post card from the Reagan era asking President Reagan, to rescue the Live POW’s in Southeast Asia.  It will be added to our military collection at the museum.

A feature article appeared in the Hays Daily News on Thursday, December 2 about the McCracken United Methodist Bell Choir performing at the Rush County Nursing Home in LaCrosse.  The Bell Ringing Group, led by Arlene Gilbert, appeared on the front page.  Another picture was on page A6 of four generations  -  Bernadine Gray, Ruthanne Crawshaw, Paul Greenway and Stephanie Greenway.

December 1890
The Hampton township “Old Bachelors Club” had their annual feast at Ike Metz’ yesterday.  The dinner, and they had a good one, was prepared without any assistance from the fair sex…..they had a huge time.

December 1910
Harry, James and Miss Edna Sultzer came from Montana Thursday to spend Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Sultzer.
In 1908 Kansas had about 2,100 motor cars.  Now there are more than 11,000 in the State.

December 1940
Dear Santa Claus:  Please bring me a doll, a Christmas stocking and bring me a paint set for my sister, Jean.  Joann Hardwick.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bible and Carol Faye, who have spent the past three months in Pennsylvania, returned home last Thursday.

December 1960
Cars driven by Mrs. Margaret Gerritzen and Ralph Plotner resulted in a collision with extsnvie damage to Mrs. Gerritzen’s car and minor damage to the Plotner car.  The accident occurred at the Cheney corner on Main Street.
The Cub Scouts are planning to have their meetings in the basement of Norlins store with Mrs. Gerald Whitis and Mrs. Kenneth Showalter as den  mothers.  Members include Bruce Peck, Kent Bible, Robert Mason, Richard Showalter, Doug Whitis, Russell Peters, Floyd Norlin, Wayne Johnston, David Davenport, Bobbie Foster and Jerry Schutte.

December 1980
The MHS girls beat Otis-Bison 72-47 on Tuesday with Janet Conner leading the scoring with 24 points.  Sandy Taylor 23 and Kayla Higgins 18.
